Eagle Farm trainer Kelso Wood doesn’t consider a wide barrier as a disadvantage for Real Surreal in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Real Surreal came up with barrier sixteen in the original draw of sixteen plus four emergencies but should jump from gate twelve if all the reserves fail to gain a run.
The 2013 Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner gets back in her races anyway and had to circle the field last Saturday before winning the Listed $100,000 Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.
“She will get back anyway and be out of the usual early charge. She just needs some cover,” Wood told AAP.
Wood prepared Real Surreal during her two year old season for three wins including the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
The Real Saga filly was then transferred to the Hawkes Racing Team at Rosehill and from five starts her best effort was a second to Thump in the Group 2 $175,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Wood then got the call to take charge of Real Surreal’s Winter Carnival preparation and at her second start back in the stable scored a narrow but dominant win in the Gai Waterhouse Classic.
“The owners ended up giving her four months in the paddock with other horses and then sent her to me to train again,” Wood said.
“I was very thankful to them because I have always thought she is something a bit special.
“We gave her a couple of jump-outs and took our time with her. I was confident she was getting back to her best.”
Real Surreal is listed as a $21 chance with Ladbrokes.com.au and is only one of two locally trained mares in the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.
Bound For Earth ($41) is Queensland’s other representative in the fillies and mares Group 1 and is now under the care of Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds after previously being prepared at Warwick Farm by David Vandyke.
