Wide barrier no concern for Sheidel in William Reid Stakes

Lindsay Park co-trainers Tom Dadernig doesn’t consider a wide barrier is any concern for Sheidel in the Group 1 $500,000 Keogh Homes William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

Dabernig can see Blake Shinn going forward on Sheidel from barrier nine in the twelve horse field and is hoping she can chalk up her second Group 1 win after leading all of the way to take out the Group 1 $500,000 The Resimax Group Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 25.

“The barrier doesn’t worry me, she will go forward and I think she is the horse to beat,” Dabernig said.

“She is absolutely flying.”

Sheidel’s last four runs have been at Group 1 level and after finishing fifth to Malaguerra in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington during the 2016 Melbourne Spring Carnival was runner up to Takedown in the Group 1 $1m Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot, Perth on November 26.

The Lindsay Park Team of Dabernig and David and Ben Hayes then prepared Sheidel for a first up win in the Oakleigh Plate and then the Holy Roman Emperor mare ran fourth, two and a quarter lengths behind her stablemate Redkirk Warrior, in the Group 1 $1.25m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12.

Sheidel is on the second line of betting at $5 for the William Reid Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au who have the Team Hawkes trained three year old Star Turn as the $4.40 favourite.

Star Turn has drawn in close at barrier three and jockey Dwayne Dunn has also indicated that he will be going forward in the early stages.

“He’s drawn a beautiful barrier (three) and he’s going to push up on-speed,” Dunn told racing.com.

The Darren Weir trained Hellbent and Mick Kent’s classy mare Silent Sedition share the third line of betting at $7.

The Moonee Valley track has been rated a Good 4 for tonight’s William Reid Stakes meeting with the rail out 2m for the entire course.
