Humidor was one of twenty Weir trained horse among the 142 nominations for this year’s Caulfield Cup and Weir is hoping that the Australian Cup winner will be his first winner of the famous 2400m Handicap.

“He would be the pick of my group,” Weir told AAP.

“We planned on giving him a good break and aiming towards the spring and aiming towards the Caulfield Cup, so he’d be the pick of mine.”

Weir will also take over the training of high class Japanese stayer Admire Deus who is also nominated for the Caulfield Cup as well as the Group 1 $6.25m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 7.

Other prominent stayers from the leading stable that are entered for the Caulfield Cup are Articus, Big Duke, Gailo Chop, Star Exhibit, Master Zephyr, Volatile Mix and Pacodali who made it three wins on the trot with his victory over 2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin in the $120,000 MSC Signs Handicap (2040m) at The Valley last Saturday.

Humidor rose to prominence during the 2017 Melbourne Autumn Carnival with his win in the Group 1 $1.5m Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 11 before running second to 2016 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka in the Group 1 $1.5m The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on March 25.

The Teofilo five year old kicked off his Caulfield Cup preparation with a first up sixth to Hartnell in the Group 2 $200,000 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 19 and is set to run in the Group 1 $1m Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday.

The early market order for the Caulfield Cup at Ladbrokes.com.au has Humidor and Admire Deus on the second line of betting at $15 behind the James Cummings trained Hartnell at $7.
