Weir will saddle up sixteen runners on Saturday and the lightly raced Extra Brut has been installed as the $2.90 favourite for the Group 3 $350,000 Ladbrokes Classic (2000m) for the three year olds.

Extra Brut has only been to the races on four occasions and after running second on debut in a 1300m Geelong Maiden on August 6, the Domesday colt went on to win his next three starts and Weir said that he has an excellent chance to make it four wins on the trot.

“I think Extra Brut in the Caulfield Classic (Ladbrokes Classic) is our best winning chance on the day,” Weir told Racenet.

“All I can say he is going great, he should get a good run, the 2000m suits and there are not too many negatives there.”

Extra Brut’s hat trick of wins kicked off with a maiden victory over 1300m at Sandown on August 29 followed by a win in a 1600m three year old Handicap at Caulfield before going on to win the Listed $120,000 UCI Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on October 6.

Jockey Johnny Allen has been aboard Extra Brut for all of his three wins and retains the ride in the Ladbrokes Classic and the colt will jump from gate two following the early scratching of the Chris Waller trained Dealmaker.

On the second line of betting for the Ladbrokes Classic at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Thinkin’ Big at $3.60 ahead of Sikorsky at $5.50.

Thinkin’ Big was very impressive in leading all to the way to record a first up win in the Group 3 $200,000 360DMG Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill on September 22 and then raced on the pace again when third behind Maid Of Heaven and Aramayo in the Group 1 $500,000 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on October 6.

Extra Brut is currently the $6 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Group 1 $2m AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on November 3 and a win in the Ladbrokes Classic would cement his spot at the top of the market order for the Blue Riband Classic.
