The impost of 58.5kg could be in the worry for Jetset Lad scoring back to back wins in the Listed $100,000 Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The Brian Smith trained Jetset Lad took out the 2014 version of the Tattersall’s Mile with 54kg but with two wins since, including a victory in the Group 2 $300,000 Evergreen Turf Brisbane Cup (2200m) at Doomben on June 6, ensured the seven year old would carry the top weight this year.
“He’s gone up a hell of a lot of weight after his Brisbane Cup win and he had nothing on his back when he won this race last year,” Smith told Racing Queensland News.
“He’s trained on really well but how can you be confident of winning with this weight?
“He’s only a little horse but this is the only suitable race for him.
“There’s no more southern horses here anymore so he doesn’t get in good at the weights.”
Jetset Lad beat his stablemate Kingdoms in last year’s Tattersall’s Mile and the pair were due to clash again this year before Smith rescheduled Kingdoms return to the race track until next week’s $65,000 SCTC 30th Anniversary Cup (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast.
Jockey Paul Hammersley is back aboard Jetset Lad after riding him to victory in the Brisbane Cup but missed the ride last start when Chris Whiteley finished fifth on the gelding in the Listed $100,000 Southbank Insurance Brokers Handicap (1800m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.
Hammerlsey will be able to save plenty of ground on Jetset Lad from barrier two and give him every chance to carry the 58.5kg to victory.
Smith has no plans of sending Jetset Lad for a rest and will head to Newcastle after Saturday’s race for the Group 3 $175,000 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) at Newcastle on September 18.
“With the weight he’s getting here we’ve got to look interstate with him,” Smith said.
“I don’t want to fly too high with him when he goes south so we’ll just look at the Newcastle Cup at this stage.”
Jetset Lad is currently marked as a $7 chance with Ladbrokes.com.au for the Tattersall’s Mile with the Tony Gollan trained Trakstar heading the market order at $5.50.
Track specialist Epic is on the second line of betting at $6 with Avalanches at $7.50, Little Brown Horse at $8 and Tornado Miss at $8.50.
