Weary’s All Aged Stakes Odd Shorten

The 2014 All Aged Stakes odds of Weary have shortened following the scratching of Steps In Time this morning, but trainer Chris Waller admits that he is worried by the fact that the imported galloper will jump from the outside gate in the Group 1 event at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Weary was available at 2014 All Aged Stakes odds of $7 earlier in the week, but is now into a quote of $5.50 following the scratching of Steps In Time this morning due to bruising on a hind heel.

While the odds of Weary have shortened, the withdrawal of Steps In Time leaves the race without a natural leader and means that the Group 1 event could be run at muddling pace, which Waller was hoping to avoid.

“He has an awkward gate and that is going to be the hardest thing to overcome,” Waller said.

“There will be pace in it, it is more of a sprinting field than a tough 1400 field, and I just hope the it is a genuinely run race all the way.

“If it is then he will be getting home late.

“He has does everything right since that super run in the Doncaster.”

Group 1 winner Shamexpress has flown under the radar heading into the All Aged Stakes this weekend but, like Weary, his price has shortened significantly in the last 24 hours.

Shamexpress was available at All Aged Stakes of $13 earlier this morning, but he was backed into a quote of $10 to score his first race win since he took out the Newmarket Handicap during the 2013 Melbourne Festival Of Racing.

The O’Reilly entire will be stepping up to 1400 metres for the first time in almost eighteen months, but has performed well without winning in four starts at the highest level of racing this preparation.

The biggest beneficiary from the scratching of Steps In Time has been stablemate Tiger Tees; who is now into a quote of $8.50 and is expected to receive an even run at the front of the All Aged Stakes field.

Tiger Tees has only had one race start at 1400 metres, but is arguably in career best form after scoring his maiden win at Group 1 level in The Galaxy (1100m) before finishing fourth in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m).

Rebel Dane remains a clear favourite in 2014 All Aged Stakes betting markets and is available at the short quote of $2.10 with Ladbrokes Australia.
