The win by French import Weary in the Group 3 $150,000 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill today wrapped up a winning treble for leading trainer Chris Waller.

Waller was successful early in the day with Junoob in the Group 3 $150,000 tab.com.au Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) and with Catkins in the Group 2 $175,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (1500m).

Weary was also Hugh Bowman’s third winner for the day after combining with Waller on Catkins and he also won the Group 1 $400,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on Lucia Valentina for Kris Lees.

The win by Weary in the Doncaster Prelude gives the imported grey a free passage in to the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick next week and Waller will decide on Monday if he will send him around on the first day of ‘The Championships’.

“We will give him a fair hearing. But it is too quick in my opinion,” Waller said.

“I think he is still not quite there yet, not switched on enough. Like the Doncaster is a big step so we will try to make a decision Monday afternoon, Tuesday’s morning pay up, it’s a good problem to have.”

Bowman had Weary ($3.20 equal favourite) quickly out of the gates and took up a prominent position before winding up in the straight to run down the leader Leebaz ($3.20 equal favourite) and score by three quarters of a length with Waller also suppling the third placegetter I’m Imposing ($71).

Bowman gave a good report for Weary and said the he would be competitive if the Waller camp went ahead with a start in the Doncaster Mile next week.

“He came here today a bit more focused early. He put himself on the pace, something that he hasn’t been doing,” Bowman said.

“I presume he will go to the Doncaster now and he is a fair dinkum chance on that.”
