Weary has been placed on three occasions at Group 1 level and will head to Caulfield with a run under belt following a second to Burbero in the Group 2 $175,000 McGrath Estate Agents Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 8.

“He is going well and deserves a Group One,” Waller told AAP.

“He has come close before.”

Weary entered the limelight during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a win in the Group 3 $150,000 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill and was then sent out the favourite for the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick but could only finish third behind stablemate Sacred Falls and Royal Descent.

The imported grey then backed up at Randwick again two weeks later for a second to Hana’s Goal in the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Weary’s other Group 1 placing came during the 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival when second to the Gai Waterhouse trained Pornichet in the $650,000 The Bundaberg Rum Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben.

Weary failed to run a place from three starts during the Spring Carnival last year with his best effort being his first up fifth to Sweet Idea in the Missile Stakes before running sixth to Tiger Tees in the Group 2 $175,000 Pro-Ride Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Following his last of twelve behind Lucia Valentina in the Group 2 $175,000 Tattersalls Club Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on September 6, Waller sent Weary for a spell before preparing him for Autumn.

Weary began his long Autumn campaign with a first up win over the Gai Waterhouse trained Driefontein in the Group 2 $200,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on January 31 and then raced right through until May when he wound up his campaign with is Doomben Cup second.

Top Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt does a lot of riding for Waller in Melbourne especially and has been recalled to ride Weary in the Memsie Stakes.

Newitt has had one ride on the gelding for a second in the Group 2 $175,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Waller will also nominate four times Group 1 winner Boban for the weight for age Memsie Stakes.

Boban will be having his first run back following a successful Brisbane Winter Carnival that saw him win the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 23 followed by a second to Srikandi in the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 6.
