Weary has been the best-backed runner in 2014 Doncaster Mile betting markets and is now available at a quote of $6 to win the Group 1 event at Royal Randwick tomorrow after being priced at double figure odds earlier in the week.

Weary was available at 2014 Doncaster Mile odds as long as $15 on Monday, but the imported stayer’s price was shortened after the barrier draw was conducted on Tuesday and punters have supported the four-year-old heavily in the last 48 hours.
The son of Astronomer Royal made his racing debut with a third place finish in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15 and ran home strongly to finish second behind Doncaster Mile betting favourite Messene in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.
Weary was well-backed in the lead-up to the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens last Saturday and stamped himself as a leading contender for the Group 1 event with a strong win over Leebaz and I’m Imposing.
Trainer Chris Waller was thrilled with the performance of Weary in the Doncaster Prelude and would not be surprised if he won the 2014 Doncaster Mile this weekend, but admits that he still is unsure just how good the gelding is.
“Is he the next big thing in Sydney, I don’t know,” Waller said.
“The way that he attacked at the 400 metre mark on Saturday at Rosehill and let down in the straight to peg back a pretty good horse, I thought was a terrific run.
“He takes on the big boys, but he has 51 and a half kilos, a reasonable draw, and he handles all conditions.
“I think after the race we will be a lot wiser, but you wouldn’t be surprised if he won the race.”
Messene remains a narrow favourite in 2014 Doncaster Mile betting markets, but his odds have continued to drift in the past 48 hours as all the money has come for Weary.
Other big drifters in betting for the $3 million event have been triple Group 1 winner Boban ($21), talented mare Dear Demi ($26) and Royal Randwick Guineas winner Dissident ($16), while there has been a sprinkling of support for the Guy Walter-trained duo of Toydini ($14) and Streama ($21) as well as last year’s winner Sacred Falls ($12).
