The Flemington card is all about one horse this Saturday, Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes and whether or not she can keep her winning streak alive in her toughest test to date.

Elsewhere in the program though there’s still plenty on offer, including race two, the Gurner’s Lane Handicap over 2000m.

It features some old triers  like Saddlers Story and Persian Star but also a couple of promising young staying types.

The pick of them is Warator, a four year old gelding racing for Ricky Bruhn.

Warator has only the seven career starts to his credit and from those he’s claimed three victories.

Importantly though those three victories have come from his last three starts giving him huge momentum into this weekend.

He raced three times as a three year old but the trips of 975m, 1000m and 1200m didn’t suit him.

He was spelled last July before returning in November to start his current prep.

Once again he found the 1200m too short first up but he hit the line hard to run into fourth position.

From there he was given three weeks off before tackling 1400m for the first time at Terang, winning that race by almost five lengths.

He was stepped up again after almost a month, that time to 1700m at Warrnambool where he spaced the field by a massive 8.5 length margin.

It was another three weeks off to his last run where he hit 2000m and again won comfortably at Werribee.

Obviously he makes a steep jump in grade to Flemington this weekend but with proven form over 2000m and another three week freshen up he’s certainly capable of giving it a good shake.

Warator is by Blevic out of Mohallah and will jump from gate one in the Gurner’s Lane Handicap carrying Dwayne Dunn at 56kg.
