Walter Chases Double Glory With Streama

Trainer Guy Walter is confident Streama can emulate her last start victory

Warwick Farm trainer Guy Walter is confident that three-year-old filly Streama will be able to emulate her last start victory in the Furious Stakes with a win in Saturday’s Tea Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Streama won the second stage of the Princess Series, which includes the Silver Shadow Stakes (1,200m), Furious Stakes (1400m), Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) and Flight Stakes (1600m), by a neck ahead of Florentina.

Walter believes the Tea Rose Stakes will be run at a slow tempo like last start.

“They’re the same fillies, basically,” Walter said.

“I don’t know who is going to lead.”

The Stratum filly experienced a perfect ride from a wide barrier (9) last start, but has been lucky enough to draw the inside gate for Saturday’s $175,000 race.

“Things went her way last start through a brilliantly-judged ride from Hugh Bowman,” Walter said.

“One aspect with that race (the Furious) was that she didn’t get a chance to learn to settle because they went so slow.”

Going on her impressive last-start performance, Walter predicts Streama will likely be in the box seat once again this weekend.

“I think she’ll be hard to beat again,” he said.

Streama has won two of her six race starts and has placed in three other races, including the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes last autumn and the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes in August.
