Premier trainer Chris Waller will make an early decision tomorrow on the fate of his runners after Warwick Farm was rated a heavy 8 this morning.

With more rain expected in the Sydney area today, the track is not going to improve and ATC’s executive general manager of racecourse management Lindsay Murphy can only wait to see what pans out.

“The weather is obviously very threatening and the forecast says we are going to cop a lot of rain in the next 24 hours,” Murphy said.

“We will just have to wait and see what situation we are in tomorrow.”

Sydney’s leading rider Hugh Bowman is to combine with Waller in four races and is keen to maintain his winning association with Permit in the Benmark 85 Vinery Stud Handicap (2200m).

The imported Permit who was previously trainer by Michael Moroney in Melbourne has found winning form under Waller with two wins from his last two starts.

Bowman was happy to stay with Permit after scoring a solid win in the Benchmark 80 Action Buisness Coach Handicap (2400m) at Rosehill on January 14 and is keen to get another feel of the five year old.

“That was my first ride on him and he let down really well,” Bowman said.

“It would be nice to see him do that again but he certainly gave me the feel of a horse that a race like the Sydney Cup would be right up his alley.”

Bowman had to weave a passage on Permit at Rosehill, but once in the clear he hit the line well and a repeat performance would be a good pointer towards the $500,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick in late April.

Permit has reasonable wet track form with two wins and a second from four starts on a slow track but is unplaced at three tries on a heavy surface.

The international galloper has only four wins from fourteen starts with two of them in France in May and June of 2010 over distances of 2400m and 2800m.

Bowman has also stuck with First Look in the Benchmark 82 Schweppes Handicap (1200m) for fillies and mares after the pair combined for a first up second at Rosehill in a Benchmark 85 over 1200m on January 21.

That was the mare’s first run for four months and Bowman said that she loomed up to win but just ran out of puff when second to Alberton Park.

The wet track conditions shouldn’t worry First Look who has four wins from six starts on slow tracks and a second on a heavy.

“She just blew out 100m out, she’d just had enough. The winner might have won anyway but I thought I was the winner when I went through but she peaked on her run.”

“I think this sort of distance is her go and she’ll run well,” Bowman said.

Bowman is back on Key West in the Benchmark 90 Super Saver Handicap (1300m) for Waller, taking over from Glyn Schofield who finished fifth on the gelding at Rosehill on January 21.

Key West also has fair wet weather form with wins on the slow and heavy to his credit.

Velrosso, who is a winner at his only start, is also resuming for Waller in the MC Connors Racing P/L (1100m) for three year olds.

The General Nediym colt hasn’t raced since winning for Damien Oliver in a 1100m Rosehill two year old Handicap in June last year.
