Waller Eyeing Brisbane Black Type Success in 2015

Trainer Chris Waller has revealed he is seriously considering a campaign through the 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with Sadler’s Lake following the classy three-year-old’s maiden victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Jumping from the gates well in the 2015 ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1580m), Sadler’s Lake settled in prime position on the heels of the race’s early leaders; receiving an ideal run in transit.

Forced wide to find a clear racing line rounding onto the final straight, the High Chaparral gelding pressed forward and hit the lead, maintaining a strong-enough sprint to hold out a late charge from Colour Of Money and Skyline Blush.

Confirming Sadler’s Lake will be tested in a Saturday race before returning to the paddock, Waller is confident the form and class displayed by the three-year-old points towards a successful transition to black type racing in 2015.

“The horses sweeping down the middle of the track had the momentum when he was stopped in his tracks,” Waller told TVN.

“When you get a horse that can pick up and get the job done after that, it generally means they are heading in the right direction.

“While he is in good form I think it is beneficial to have another run and test him in Saturday grade.

“Prize money is good and with BOBS bonus’ it is definitely worth having another throw at the stumps.

“It also helps lift his rating so he can step out in better races next time.”

Running third in two strong Rosehill Gardens barrier trials most notably prior to his racing debut, Sadler’s Lake ran a credible fifth behind the likes of Skylimit and Brazen Moss in the Schweppes Plate (1200m) prior to his maiden triumph on December 3rd.

Yet to confirm a specific path through the 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival for Sadler’s Lake, Waller will likely consider races such as the major Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m; an event for which he would be treated particularly well with the weights.
