Trainer Chris Waller believes that the consistent Heart Testa deserves to break through for his maiden win at Listed level in the Razor Sharp Handicap(1150m) at the Randwick Kensington track on Saturday.
Heart Testa started his spring campaign with an unlucky third place finish behind That’s a Good Idea in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick on September 7 before recording an impressive win in The Paslode Sprint (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens three weeks later.
The son of Testa Rossa was bested once again by That’s A Good Idea in the Bob Ingham Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on October 20 but was able to hold-off Cape Kidnappers to win the Diamond Beach Handicap on November 16 despite being inconvenienced at the start of the race.
Heart Testa was very well-backed in the lead-up to the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) but was badly hampered when he hit the inside running rail at the 800 metre mark and was unable to run down veteran gelding Zaratone in the final stages of the race.
Waller believes that Heart Testa would have won the Starlight Stakes if he had struck interference and is confident that the four-year-old can turn-the-tables on Zaratone and win the Razor Sharp Handicap this weekend.
“He is very consistent and last I thought that he was tough,” Waller said.
“He got put through the rail at the 600 metre mark; he didn’t quiet go through the rail but he smashed into it.
“It took away his winning chance, it is as simple as that, and it gave it to the winner and leader.”
Heart Testa has drawn ideally in barrier five for the Listed event, while the other leading chances like Zaratone (barrier 14), Darley speedster Safeguard (barrier 11) and Peter Moody-trained Club Command (barrier 13) have all drawn towards the outside of the field.
Waller is full of confidence that Heart Testa will get an ideal run into the race and rates him one of his best winning chances at Randwick this weekend.
“We have good gate and the speed in the race is drawn wide,” Waller said.
“They will be working hard to cross us that is for sure.
“The horse is racing well, he came through that last start no problems, and he deserves a Listed win next to his name.”
Heart Testa is currently the favourite in Razor Sharp Handicap betting markets at odds of $3.50 but there has been some support for Club Command ($4.20), Aeronautical ($6.50) and Safeguard ($7).
