Chris Waller has his own chance in the 2012 Magic Millions Classic but the master trainer says his biggest threat isn’t among the top two.

Dreifontein and Sizzling have been the market favourites all week but it’s the third placed Amorino that causes Waller the most concern.

In fact when talking about the race he was giving his rival a far bigger push than his own chance Fundido.

Fundido will need to overcome a horror gate draw of 16 as well as a downturn in form following a brilliant debut.

Waller has acknowledged he doesn’t know if it’s something he’ll be able to do as he follows a clear Sydney form line into the race.

“Amorino has been very impressive in his two wins in Sydney and I rate the form there the strongest two-year-old form in the country,” Waller said.

In fact he says the reasons he’s not prominent in the two year old arena is that he’s having to constantly compete with the very best.

“A few years ago I made a conscious decision to ramp up my presence in the two-year-old races but it just hasn’t happened despite our best efforts,” he said.

“I’m sure it is because of the strong Sydney juvenile form. It’s just so hard to win the races in Sydney.”

He says the strength of the Sydney scene comes down to the huge pool of talent they have to work with.

“The Sydney trainers have more access to the best breeding area in Australia with so many top studs based in the Hunter,” he said.

“Good two-year-olds can come along from the other states but as a group Sydney is usually the benchmark and that seems to be the case this year.”
