Shoot Out

With such a large number of international starters in today’s Doomben Cup, trainer John Wallace believes that Shoot Out will be the one to win the race for the locals.

While the majority of Group 1 stayer’s races this season have been won by overseas imports, Wallace is confident that Shoot Out will turn the tables in today’s race.

“This is the first time this prep he’s been spot-on,” Wallace said.

“He only had a 1200m, 1400m and then went into the 1800m.”

Shoot Out finished fifth in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes last start after being disappointed for a run down the home straight.

“I was really happy with his Hollindale run and I think Corey (Brown) is right, he probably peaked on his run the last 50 yards,” Wallace said.

“He didn’t finish far away the other day and doesn’t have to improve much.

“This is the first time he’s back to the level of last spring.”

The trainer has always had the Doomben Cup in mind for Shoot Out, feeling the race style will suit him perfectly.

“I picked this race out some time ago and I’m pretty happy,” Wallace said.

Wallace believes that it will take a great horse to beat Shoot Out today.

“His work this week has been exceptional,” he said.

“He is the best horse in the race.

“He looks really well and I’m very hopeful.

The four-year-old will have to contend with race favourites My Kingdom Of Fife from Great Britain, as well as the latest Irish import Glass Harmonium.

“It would be great to win one for the locals,” Wallace said.
