Peter Moody is hoping for plenty of rain in the lead-up to Saturday’s Ipswich Cup (2150m) as he chases his first win with import Voila Ici.

A Group 1 winner in Italy, the eight-year-old has shown ability in nine starts for Moody but is yet to pass the post in front.

At his most recent start the grey front-runner was a solid third in the Eagle Farm Cup which was a pleasing return to form after struggling in three previous outings this campaign.

Moody has indicated the wetter the better for his charge when he takes on a quality field in the $200,000 feature race.

Needing a dry track is 2012 South Australian Derby winner Zabeelionaire who has struggled since his three-year-old season.

Last year’s Adelaide Cup winner Rialya has been aimed at the race and will be running fourth-up on the back of a seventh-place finish in the Premier’s Cup.

One of the more intriguing nominations is Barry Lockwood-trained gelding Tokamak who won over 1600m in the Strawberry Road Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The five-year-old is yet to race over more than 1650m but is a consistent performer, having won nine times and placed another seven from 23 starts.

Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan has nominated two runners, with Toowoomba Cup winner Bang On and fourth placegetter Topping both chasing black-type success.

Out to improve on last year’s third will be Warrior Within who is joined by Buffett and Dazzle Us as entrants from the Bruce Hill stable.
