Sacred Elixir cemented himself as Victoria Derby favourite when he hit the line strongly to take out the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on Cox Plate Day and he has been easily the best-backed runner throughout the week.

The Pour Moi gelding was available at 2016 Victoria Derby odds of $3.80 when the Victoria Derby field was released on Wednesday and his price has continuously shortened throughout the week.

The other best-backed runner in Victoria Derby betting markets has been Swear, who is now a clear second favourite at a quote of $7.50 after being backed in from $12 earlier in the week.

Swear started his 2016 Spring Racing Carnival with a victory in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Royal Randwick on September 3 and he did not have a great deal of luck in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 24 before he returned to his best with a second place finish behind Yankee Rose in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on October 8.

The only other horse that is available at single-figure Victoria Derby Day odds is Robbie Laing-trained So Si Bon, who is priced at $8.50 to record the biggest win of his racing career.

So Si Bon made his racing debut with a second place finish behind the talented Southerly Wind at Flemington and he stamped himself as a genuine Victoria Derby contender with his performances in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and Group 3 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on Cox Plate Day.

Sacred Elixir, Swear and So Si Bon are the only horses that have been supported in the Victoria Derby in the last 24 hours as Prized Icon ($14 out to $17), Rocketeer ($12 out to $16), Inference ($12 out to $15), Silvera ($34 out to $51), Wine Bush ($21 out to $34), Kent ($26 out to $34), Beach Life ($16 out to $21), Tumultuous ($18 out to $21), Hollywood Mo ($26 to $34) and All Out Of Love ($51 out to $91).
