Unforgettable Mick Tubman Chance says Bye

The filly which captured the hearts and minds of horse racing fans around Australia last year has been retired after pulling up lame at Rosehill.

Chance Bye embarked on an amazing journey coming form nowhere to earn herself a spot in the 2010 Golden Slipper.

Unfortunately she couldn’t quite complete the fairy tale, finishing ninth, but only four lengths away from the winner.

What made her so special was her determined ability against much classier and much more expensive rivals.

Her trainer Mick Tubman was a self confessed battler of the industry, he couldn’t even afford the $15,000 to purchase Chance Bye as a yearling, forced to borrow off friends.

After she won her first decent race Tubman said in an interview he would use the money to finally affix a roof to his training stables.

Her stats show just how good an investment she was winning more than half a million dollars and claiming three wins from nine starts including the Silver Slipper Stakes.

Chance Bye certainly changed the life of her trainer but her memory will no doubt stay strong in the minds of more than a few punters around Australia as well.
