Unencumbered to start low key Golden Slipper preparation

While several of the top fancies for the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) are going around at Randwick and Caulfield tomorrow, Magic Millions winner Unencumbered is starting a low key preparation for the richest two year old race in the world.

Unencumbered, along with the Gai Waterhouse trained Law and the two favourites for the Blue Diamond Preludes at Caulfield tomorrow, Rubick and Earthqauke are among the two hundred and eighteen second acceptors for the Golden Slipper run at Rosehill on April 5.

Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker sent Unencumbered straight to the spelling paddock after winning the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11 and has reported that the two year old is in fine order back in work.

Baker is planning to run the Testa Rossa colt in a 900m Rosehill barrier trial on February 18 in preparation for his return to the racetrack in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 1.

Unencumbered will then line up in the Group 2 $300,000 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 22 before running in the Golden Slipper.

“I couldn’t be happier with him at the moment, he has done well on his time off,” Baker told the Sportsman.

Unencumbered’s win in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic helped lift his prizemoney tally to over $1.7m for five wins from six starts.

Baker will be hoping that Unencumbered will replicate the deeds of Dance Hero (2004) and Phelan Ready (2009) who are the only two juveniles to complete the Magic Millions – Golden Slipper double.

Golden Slipper favourites Rubick (colts and geldings) and Earthquake (fillies) will be in action at Caulfield tomorrow in the two Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Blue Diamond Preludes (1100m).

The Gerald Ryan trained Rubick and Earthquake from the powerful Peter Snowden stable are on target for the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 22 before heading back to Sydney for the Golden Slipper.

While Law from the Gai Waterhouse stable is an odds on favourite for the $85,000 Adaptra 2yo Handicap (1000m) at Randwick tomorrow and is ready to stake his claim for Golden Slipper recognition.

Rubick currently heads the Ladbrokes.com.au Golden Slipper market order at $4 just shading Earthquake at $5 with Unencumbered at $8.50 ahead of Law who is on the $15 mark with Flemington winner Risen From Doubt and Chvilary who is also going around the colts and geldings Blue Diamond Prelude.
