Underwood Stakes Betting Update

Talented mare Silent Achiever is a clear favourite in 2014 Underwood Stakes betting markets and has easily been the best backed runner in the Group 1 event at Caulfield this afternoon.

Silent Achiever was one of the star performers during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, taking out the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 BMW (2400m) and gave the impression that she was ready for a big spring campaign when she ran home well to finish fifth in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30.

The daughter of O’Reilly opened at Underwood Stakes odds of $3.40, but there has been a steady stream of support for the four-time Group 1 winner and she is now into a quote of $3.10.

While Silent Achiever is clear favourite in Underwood Stakes betting, the best-backed winner in the field has been David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Stipulate.

Stipulate opened at Underwood Stakes odds of $7.50, but there has been consistent support for the imported stayer after he returned to racing with an impressive performance in the Listed Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on August 30.

Foreteller opened as second favourite in Underwood Stakes betting markets, but has been a constant drifter in betting since the market was opened on Wednesday.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper has not recorded a race win since he took out the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but has performed well in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1400m).

The only other runners that are available at single figure odds in 2014 Underwood Stakes betting markets are Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer ($8.50) and P.B. Lawrence Stakes winner Star Rolling ($8.50).

The Offer opened at Underwood Stakes odds of $6, but has drifted consistently and it out to a quote of $8.50, while Star Rolling was backed into $7 early  and is now back out to a price of $8.50.

Mark Kavanagh-trained Super Cool has not recorded a race win since he took out the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last year and he has failed to fire in both the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), but there has been a sprinkling of support for the Fastnet Rock gelding and he is into $31.

Lidari has remained steady at $10 in the last 24 hours, while two-time Group 1 winner Happy Trails ($15) and Lloyd Williams-owned Thought Worthy ($81) have both been friendless in betting.

The 2013 Underwood Stakes was won by It’s A Dundeel, who scored an upset victory over clear favourite Atlantic Jewel in a race that was dubbed one of the best of the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.
