Under The Louvre opened at $8 when the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes field was released on Wednesday, but that price was quickly snapped up by early shoppers and there has been consistent support for the Robert Smerdon-trained galloper during the week.

The Excellent Art entire is yet to record a win at the highest level of racing, but he was placed in both the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) during the autumn and he hit the line strongly to finish a close second behind Churchill Dancer in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington on September 12.

While Under The Louvre has been the best-backed horse in 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes betting markets, Team Freedman-trained Disposition remains a clear favourite at a steady quote of $3.80.

Disposition showed that he was capable of competing at the highest level of racing on the east coast of Australia when he finished a close second behind Wandjina in the Group 2 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on February 21 and he returned to the races with a soft win at Flemington on September 12.

The only other horse that is available at single figure Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes odds is Darren Weir-trained Stratum Star, who has remained steady at a quote of $7.50 since the betting market was released earlier in the week.

Stratum Star hit the line strongly when he finished seventh behind Setinum in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 15 and he recorded another Group 1 placing when he finished third behind Boban and Entirely Platinum in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29.

There has been a sprinkling of support in the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes for Amicus ($16 into $14), Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($26 into $21) and Hopfgarten ($41 into $34), while Lucky Hussler ($11 out to $13), Cosmic Endeavour ($13 out to $16), Amorino ($21 out to $26), Leebaz ($41 out to $51), Strawberry Boy ($21 out to $26), Charmed Harmony ($11 out to $17), Abidewithme ($26 out to $31) and Bull Point ($31 out to $61) have all been on the drift.

Favourites have an excellent record in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Moment Of Change (2012), Rebel Dane (2013) and Trust In A Gust (2014) have all taken out the race as favourite in the past three years.
