Under The Eiffel may have earned a crack at the 2012 Stradbroke Handicap after impressively winning the Alannah and Madeline Foundation Stakes (1500m) at Sandown Hillside today.

The Tony Vasil trained galloper comfortably brought up a hattrick of wins and gave jockey Craig Williams a winning double for the day.

Williams settled the four-year-old outside leader Launay who set a steady speed in front.

Into the straight, Under The Eiffel traveled easily while opponents were pushed along.

Under a hold, Under The Eiffel ($1.90 fav) scored by a length and three quarters from Sistine Angel ($9) with Orbit Express ($26) another neck away third.

Both Sistine Angel and Orbit Express ran on well from midfield but never posed a threat to the winner.

Williams, who won the first race on Maximus Moonard, also finished runner up in three previous races.

“He (Under The Eiffel) has done the job, courtesy of a great ride,” Vasil said.

“He will go to the paddock now, he is a pretty handy horse, I don’t think you have seen the best of him.

“He might be a sneaky Stradbroke horse.”

Vasil has always rated his galloper who hasn’t always had a great deal of luck in races.

“He ran fifth in the Australian Guineas and I took him to Brisbane but some of our better jockeys didn’t give him the best of rides,” Vasil said.

“He ran second in the Sunshine Guineas but some of the boys were getting back last and with the big fields in Brisbane you either run into dead ends or you go wide and lose ground.

“He did get a nice spell in the warmth in Queensland and has put on something like 30kg – he is a bigger and stronger horse.”

William said he was fortunate to gain the ride.

“I was lucky to get the ride as (jockey) Jamie Mott does all the work on him but the weight was too light for him,” Williams said.

“He (Under The Eiffel) is pretty good.

“He has been well placed by Tony.”
