Two Runners For Waller In Summoned Stakes

Chris Waller has both Belle De Coeur and She’s Clean in the 2014 Summoned Stakes at Sandown on Saturday and the leading Sydney trainer is hoping that the duo can turn around their luck in the Group 3 event this weekend.

She’s Clean started her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with an impressive fourth in the Group 3 City Tattersalls Club Nivison (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 18, but failed to fire in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

The Redoute’s Choice mare has not recorded a race win since she took out the Listed June Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick last year, but Waller hopes that a conservative ride from James Winks in the Summoned Stakes will give her the chance to return to winning form in the Summoned Stakes.

“We are going to ride her a bit quieter this week, she was too close last start,” Waller said.

Belle De Coeur started her racing career under the care of Luke Price and she performed well without winning in three race starts during the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, but she was transferred to the care of Waller after she failed to fire in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 13 and The Paslode Handicap (1350m) at the same venue on September 27.

The Show A Heart mare made her debut for the Waller stable in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes and she was caught very wide throughout the race, but she was still able to work home strongly to finish a tough fourth.

Waller was most impressed with the performance of Belle De Coeur in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, but admits that the tough performance may have taken too much out of the five-year-old heading into the Summoned Stakes.

“She was four wide the whole way until the 600 metre mark and then she got out to about ten wide,” Waller said.

“It wasn’t his fault, but it was a bad barrier, big field and he was a victim of circumstances.

“It was a big run and you never really know how much they flatten them those big runs.”

Belle De Coeur is currently available at 2014 Summoned Stakes odds of $7, while She’s Clean is priced at a quote of $8.50 to return to winning form in the Group 3 event.
