Turn Me Loose is the 2016 Futurity Stakes Winner

Turn Me Loose has returned to winning form with an impressive all-round effort to take out this afternoon’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse this afternoon.

Turn Me Loose faded for fourth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes over course and distance a fortnight ago but took a good position in the Futurity Stakes from the outset just off the early pace of Hucklebuck and Trust In A Gust.

Turning onto the final straight in an ideal position, the Iffraaj gelding immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by jockey Opie Bosson; charging clear and maintaining a strong-enough sprint to withstand a late charge from Stratum Star.

Bosson delivered a gem of a ride on Turn Me Loose in the Futurity Stakes and believes the horse’s tune-up in the CF Orr Stakes two weeks ago played a key role in this afternoon’s impressive performance.

“He took a little bit to get there, but once we got into our spot he dropped the bit beautifully and travelled up beautifully for me,” Bosson said after crossing the line.

“Once we ranged up to them turning in he doesn’t lay down, he ran it strong down to the line.

“He loves a dogfight and I knew the other day after the run he was always going to improve, so we were pretty confident coming into today.

“He’s looking for a mile now. He had to work a little bit to get there over the 1400m because they just went a little bit quickly early but he loves the mile, he gets up there and bowls along beautifully.”

The win in this afternoon’s Futurity Stakes marked the third Group 1 triumph for Bosson and trainer Murray Baker in Australia since the beginning of the recent Spring Carnival, and the hoop was understandably thrilled to continue the winning partnership.

“He’s a freak of a trainer and it’s a pleasure to be riding for him,” Bosson added.

In taking out the 2016 Futurity Stakes, Turn Me Loose has now posted a commendable race record of seven wins and four minors through only thirteen starts, highlighted by three Group 1 triumphs.
