Turbulent Jet Primed for Civic Stakes

Trainer Lee Curtis elected to skip a minor metropolitan sprint with in-form gelding Turbulent Jet as a result of inclement weather last weekend, but has revealed the five-year-old is set to make his black type debut in Saturday’s Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Posting four wins and a further two minors through her sixteen career starts so far, Turbulent Jet returned to completion for a close second behind Alberto Magic in a Rosehill Gardens sprint over 1200m on May 9th; progressing to another close second in the Ranevt BM85 (1200m) three weeks later.

Thrilled with the condition of the Jet Spur gelding in the lead-up to the 2015 Civic Stakes, Curtis told the Sydney Morning Herald he believes the Rosehill Gardens conditions will be far more suitable his runner on Saturday and is confident he will lay a great account for himself.

“If the track had have been a soft seven I would have run,” Curtis said of last weekend’s scratching.

“It was as simply as that. With no rain around this week the track should improve a bit.

“It’s probably a mental thing to be honest for us, given the fact he’s bled before. That was on a shifty track. I gave him a gallop once I scratched him and he worked as good as he can. He went terrific.”

“If there were other options like a six-furlong ratings race we would probably go with that but it doesn’t worry me to go to (the Civic Stakes).

“I can’t say I’ve done anything different and sometimes in other preps he might not have come up.

“It looks like he has done that and he has looked enormous the whole time through. He’s going really good.”

Turbulent Jet has been a strong and consistent performer for Curtis since first appearing on course competitively in early 2013 and is undoubtedly up to black type class, having finished a credible fourth amongst a field which included the likes of Boss Lane, Telepathic and Atmospherical during the Spring Carnival most notably.

The 2015 Civic Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
