Dual Group 1 winner Trust In A Gust will be set for a Spring Carnival campaign after a Brisbane Winter Carnival appearance had to be abandoned.

Trust In A Gust was on his way to Brisbane for the Group 1 $500,000 UBET BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday but sustained an minor leg injury while being boarded onto the plane and had to return to his Ballarat stable.
Trainer Darren Weir and connections considered their options with the Keep The Faith stallion and there was a real possibility that the four year old could go straight to stud.
But Weir confirmed today via twitter that Trust In A Gust would be prepared for a Spring Carnival campaign.
“Trust In A Gust will have a six-week spell and will remain in training aimed towards major weight-for-age Group Ones through the spring,” Weir tweeted.
Trust In A Gust was being prepared for all the Group 1 sprints during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and after the BTC Cup was going to head to the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 23 followed by the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben a fortnight later.
Part owner, Swettenham Stud’s Adam Sangster, said after discussions with Weir and his vet Andrew Cust, the decision was made to let Trust In A Gust race on into his five year old season.
“With so many other stallions heading to stud this season we felt it would be good for the racing public to see this horse continue racing for at least another 12 months,” Sangster told racing.com.
“I went to see the horse on Monday with Darren Weir and vet Andrew Cust was also more than happy with his recovery rate from his injury, however, we decided that it would be in the best interests of the horse to cease with the Brisbane campaign.
“Darren Weir said the horse could be aimed towards a weight-for-age path in the Spring and possibly an international campaign if he measures up to the top level again.”
Trust In A Gust rose to prominence during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival with a Group 1 winning double at Caulfield when he beat Dissident in the $400,000 Bendigo Bank East Malvern Sir Rupert Clarke Charity Cup (1400m) and followed that with a win in the $400,000 David Jones NBCF Toorak Handicap (1600m).
