My Kingdom Of Fife could join the likes of Rough Habit and Might And Power with a win in the Doomben Cup

My Kingdom Of Fife will attempt to join the likes of Rough Habit and Might And Power when he runs in the $500,000 Doomben Cup tomorrow.

Only those two horses have ever won both the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes on their way to winning the Doomben Cup, and My Kingdom Of Fife is in the position to join them.

Trainer Chris Waller is hopeful that his English import possesses the ability to become the third horse to win all three races in the same year.

“You need good horses to win the Queen Elizabeth and the Hollindale Stakes,” Waller said.

“Good horses don’t fluke winning those races.”

Waller believes that My Kingdom Of Fife has improved even further from his half-length win over Glass Harmonium in the Hollindale.

“I thought My Kingdom Of Fife was a bit above himself when he won the Hollindale last run,” Waller said.

“I might have been a little too soft on him after he won the Queen Elizabeth and he’s improved quite a bit since the Hollindale.”

The trainer is mindful of the Doomben Cup’s talented field, labelling Shoot Out as his biggest threat.

“Shoot Out is a serious Group One horse and he’s our danger,” Waller said.

“I liked his Hollindale Stakes run and he’ll go a lot better on firmer ground.”

Waller is hopeful that the six-year-old My Kingdom Of Fife’s success will continue on from Brisbane to the Melbourne spring carnival.

“He could be a leading hope in the Caulfield Cup and hopefully he’ll get that far,” he said.
