Trip To Paris’ Melbourne Cup Odds Crushed

Trip To Paris has been backed into 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $7.50 and has been a clear market mover in betting markets for the Group 1 event at Flemington this afternoon.

Trip To Paris was backed into second favouritism in Melbourne Cup betting markets after he finished a slashing second behind Mongolian Khan in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17, but he has easily been the best-backed runner in the past 24 hours and he could challenge Japanese stayer Fame Game for favouritism if the betting support continues.

Trainer Ed Dunlop’s travelling foreman Robin Trevor-Jones has looked after Trip To Paris since he arrived in Australia and he was thrilled with the way that the Champs Elysees gelding performance in the Caulfield Cup and he is hopeful that the Ascot Gold Cup winner can produce an even better effort in the 2015 Melbourne Cup.

“He was very relaxed at Caulfield and he handled that very well,” Trevor-Jones said.

“That is one of the reasons that we gave him a run there and he handled the occasion very well.

“He was very fit going into it – it is a $3 million race and we wanted to win it.

“He ran very, very well and the trip going from a mile and a half to the two miles of the Melbourne Cup will suit him right to the ground.”

The Dunlop stable has both Trip To Paris and Red Cadeaux in the 2015 Melbourne Cup field and Trevor-Jones believes that both horses will go into ‘the race that stops a nation’ in outstanding condition.

Trevor-Jones has brought Red Cadeaux out to Australia on six occasions for three second place finishes in the Melbourne Cup as well as a second place finish behind Criterion in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) and he would never tip against the veteran gelding, but he believes that there is not a great deal between him and Trip To Paris.

“Trip To Paris is a younger horse on the up, but Red Cadeaux is very good around there,” Trevor-Jones said.

“I don’t want to pull any of them apart.

“You have to be good around Flemington.”

Trip To Paris is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $7.50, while Red Cadeaux is priced at $31 to go one better in the 2015 edition of the race.
