Trainer Trevor Bailey has decided to uproot his Queensland stables and relocate to Newcastle in New South Wales.
Bailey was based at Gold Coast racecourse but has decided that the future of racing down south appears much brighter.
The trainer made his final decision to move his successful stable after his horse’s connections urged him to make the move.
“It just comes down to facts and figures and the owners have decided to go down for more prize money,” Bailey said.
“I think it’s well documented that Brisbane Racing is up in the air at the moment,
“I said to them I’d make the move and take the horses.
“New South Wales is going ahead and it’s a lot cheaper to run a stable there.”
Bailey is hoping to have made the move by the end of this month.
“Hopefully around about the 21st of January I should be there,” he said.
The trainer will be taking with him his newly acquired Mr Pedantic, who was purchased from New Zealand trainer Patsy Riley.
“The horse has come out of New Zealand, he’ll arrive on the 16th of January,” Bailey said.
Mr Pedantic is said to be one of the biggest staring talents in New Zealand at the moment and is widely thought to be second only to Jimmy Choux.
“The wraps are very big on him. He’s very lightly raced,” his new trainer said.
“They say he’s coming through the ranks as probably the second best stayer in New Zealand.
“(Mr Pedantic) ran second behind Jimmy Choux in the (Waikato) Guineas.
“He’s going to be a nice horse to take with me.”
The trainer announced that there was still a small portion of the horse available for purchase.
“I think there’s about 20% left in the horse,” he said.
