Tremec was well in contention for the 3200m staying test and was a $9 chance after winning the Group 2 $175,000 Schweppes Chairman’s Quality (2600m) at Randwick two weeks ago.

Thompson will now send Tremec to the spelling paddock after foot trouble was discovered this morning.

“Tremec has a sore foot and will spell for the Spring,” Thomspon said.

The scratching of  Tremec has taken some of the pace out of the race with the Gai Waterhouse trained Julienas now looking the likely leader on a track that has been rated a dead 4.

The Waterhouse stable is expecting a dramatic turnaround with the import who failed to beat a runner hone when a distance last of twelve in the Chairman’s Quality.

The six year old has subsequently won a Randwick barrier trial after no abnormalities could be detected.

“We don’t really know what went wrong,” Racing Manager Bruce Slade said.

“The horse pulled up OK, and has since trialled really well.

“He seems at the top of his game. It’s still a mystery for us and we’re hoping he can turn it all around “

The Chris Waller trained Kelinni has shortened further with Tremec out of contention and is currently the $2.80 favourite ahead of Maluckyday at $4.40 with Julienas a $8 chance just ahead of Blood Brotha at $9.

The Group 1 $400,000 Yarraman Park All Aged Stakes (1400m), which sees glamour colt All Too Hard’s first Sydney Autumn Carnival appearance, is clear of scratchings.

While the remaining two Group 1s both have one scratching each with Lamasery out of the $500,000 Santos Coffee Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m)  and Diva Dee is out of the $400,000 Moet & Chandon 150th Champagne Stakes (1600m).
