Topweight Looms For Sincero In Epsom Handicap

Sincero looks likely to be the top weight in the Epsom Handicap

Sincero looks like becoming the top weight for the 2011 Epsom Handicap with those currently above him unlikely to accept for the October 1st feature.

As it stands there are three horses above him on the list, Heart Of Dreams, My Kingdom Of Fife and Glass Harmonium, all of which are unexpected to be in Sydney at that period.

That will mean Sincero, which is currently weighted with 56.5kgs, will go up half a kilo to 57kgs.

Given how well the horse has returned after such an impressive autumn and winter season it’s not nothing that’s overly concerning to trainer Stephen Farley.

“He’s probably earned that and it doesn’t look too bad a weight really,” he said.

Sincero ran first up on September third in the Tramway Handicap winning by a nose against Secret Admirer and a length in front of Thankgodyou’rehere.

“He was very good first up, tremendous run and he’s come through in flying colours,” Farley said.

This weekend his spring program will continue when he tackles the George Main Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill.

He maintains there’s no evidence to suggest he might suffer from ‘second race syndrome’ after a strong first up run.

“He seems fine in himself…at this stage I’m pretty happy with him but we’ll wait and see how he turns up on Saturday,” he said.

The George Main run will be his last before the Epsom Handicap, providing there is no change to the race continuing at Royal Randwick.

“We’ll be committed to run in the Epsom as long as it’s at Randwick,” Farley said.

“We’ll probably throw in a nom at Melbourne just in case they do a back flip.”

Workers at Randwick are facing a race against time to sure up the safety of the QEII Grandstand which has seen a number of meetings already shifted to alternative venues this spring.
