Top Five George Main Stakes Finish The Goal For Rising Romance

Trainer Donna Logan believes that Rising Romance will be right on track for the 2014 Caulfield Cup if she can finish in the top five when she makes her weight-for-age debut in the 2014 George Main Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Rising Romance stamped herself as one of the best staying fillies in Australasia after she took out the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and she showed that she was capable of taking the step-up to open company when she returned to racing with a fast-finishing fourth in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on September 6.

Logan told Sky Racing HQ that Rising Romance has taken plenty of benefit out of her first-up run heading into the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and the New Zealand-based trainer is confident that the daughter of Ekraar is right on track to be peaking for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18.

“I am really pleased with seeing her today,” Logan said.

“She is starting to come into the coat even more and I can see that her coat has turned.

“She has tightened up a little bit more and I am pretty pleased with how she is looking.

“She just keeps taking the next step.

“I think weight-for-age is going to be interesting definitely for her, but I think that she is going to equit herself well again.

“The mile is better suited to her than the 1400 was and the track is going to be more to be more to her liking.

“If she had run in the first five last time I would have been over the moon, which she did, and again if she runs in the top five I am on target for where I want to be come Caulfield Cup time.”

After contesting the George Main Stakes on Saturday, Rising Romance is set to run in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) at Royal Randwick on October 4 before heading to Melbourne for the Caulfield Cup a fortnight later.

Rising Romance was allocated 51 kilograms when the 2014 Caulfield Cup weights were released over a fortnight ago, but she is set to carry 53 kilograms in the Group 1 event after the weights are raised by two kilograms.

The Group 1 winning mare is available at 2014 George Main Stakes odds of $12, while she is available at a quote of $15 to win the 2014 Caulfield Cup.
