Disposition will have the chance to record a maiden win at Group 1 level in the 2015 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday and co-trainer Lee Freedman believes that the talented gelding is perfectly suited by the step-up to 1600 metres for the $400,000 event.

Disposition made his debut for Team Freedman with a very easy win in the Listed The Sofitel (1400m) at Flemington on September 12 and he was only narrowly denied by Stratum Star in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), but Freedman believes that the four-year-old is only now at peak fitness for the 2015 Toorak Handicap.
“We are very pleased with him,” Freedman told Racing Ahead.
“The best part about this week is that he is going to be third-up and he would have gained a bit more in fitness.
“I think that 1600 metres is probably ideal for him now and we are very fortune that we drew a perfect gate, it gives him a few options from the jump.
“He is in great form and there won’t be any excuses if he has even luck in running.
“I am pretty confident that we have got him as good as we can get him.
“He meets the winner of that race a couple of kilos better and you have to be feeling reasonably confident.”
Disposition has shown a degree of tactical versatility during his racing career to date and jockey Damien Oliver elected to settle him just behind the leaders in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Freedman said that Oliver was forced to take up a forward position in the early stages of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, but he is unsure if that is the best way to ride the Reset gelding and he would be happy to see Dwayne Dunn ride the gelding a touch more conservatively in the Toorak Handicap.
“I think that was dictated to Damien by the fact that he had drawn in so close,” Freedman said.
“The risk with that is that although it looks good on paper, you can be buried in the ruck and not get a look at them.
“We made a decision to ride him a little bit handier, which worked out perfectly in the run, but it sort of dulled his finish just a fraction.
“It wasn’t completely ideal, but from seven I will pretty me leave it up to Dwayne, he would have done his homework and watched his races and he will work out what is the optimal way to ride the horse.
“I would prefer to see him in the first half of the field.”
Disposition is currently available at 2015 Toorak Handicap odds of $4.80 and he is a narrow favourite from Lucky Hussler ($5.50), Stratum Star ($6.50) and Noble Protector ($9).
