Great Britain import Tinseltown will be out to claim his first Australian win in Eagle Farm’s Listed Queensland Cup tomorrow.

The seven-year-old gelding has had five starts since arriving in Australia but has been unable to break his maiden.

The horse also suffered a bad fall in the Group 1 Sydney Cup in April, but was lucky enough to emerge unscathed.

Tinseltown finished third by less than half a length in his last start in the Listed Caloundra Cup.

Trainer Michael Moroney believes the horse was not able to sustain his fitness.

“He just got a little bit tired the last bit,” Moroney said.

“I thought he was going to win. He struck the front at the right time but just couldn’t find the line the last bit.

“That’s the question mark and he’s not overly big and has quite a bit of weight.”

Moroney is confident that Tinseltown could handle the 3,200 metres of tomorrow’s race.

“I think the two miles will be run a bit more sedately and even though his record at the journey is not great he’s had a few excuses before,” he said.

“He’s shown glimpses he’ll get the two miles even though his record doesn’t suggest it.

“One of those was in the Sydney Cup where he fell and he was going comfortably at the time but just clipped heels and didn’t make it around.

“Last year in this he was caught wide so went back and that ended up being the wrong move in a race won by a front-runner.”

“He’s bouncy and seems to have come through the Caloundra Cup pretty well so fingers crossed.”

The trainer believes that Tinseltown is deserved of a good victory in Australia.

“He deserves a decent win,” Moroney said.

“He hasn’t won a race in Australia but he’s been a good performer, albeit up to Group 2 level.

“He’s not quite up to Group 1 level here but has been a really good horse for the owners.”

Tinseltown won eight of his 44 starts back in England and will begin tomorrow’s Listed Queensland Cup with 58 kilograms on his back.
