Time Running Out For Super Star Match Race

Racing fans around Australia should not give up hope on a dream match race between the two super stars More Joyous and Black Caviar.

Chief Executive of the Australian Turf Club, Darren Pearce, remains confident he can secure a deal which would suit both camps and finally bring the two great mares together.

More Joyous has 13 wins from 17 starts while Black Caviar is yet to lose a race in 10 attempts.

Pearce has been in private negotiations with connections of both horses for the past few weeks and his current goal is a meeting in the All Aged Stakes on April 23rd.

“Privately we have been holding talks with connections to see if they would consider altering their preparations and running in the All Aged Stakes,” he said.

“We understand it is a long-shot but the option has to be explored.

“The All Aged Stakes is worth $400,000 so there would need to be a significant boost in prize money to entice them to change their plans.”

Pearce acknowledges an earlier attempt was made prior to the Canterbury Stakes but a deal could not be reached and both horses continued on their differing paths.

It appears to be a race against the clock for Pearce, with Black Caviar to have one more run in Sydney on April 9th before heading north for the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

More Joyous meanwhile is on track for the Doncaster Mile, just one week before the suggested match race which could be the major problem for the Waterhouse Stable.

It would be a travesty for Australian Racing should a deal not be struck up sometime this year, with a match race of this caliber guaranteed to inject a wave of both cash and new support into the Australian Racing Industry.
