Time For War is back under the banner of Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan and is one of twenty-four three year olds nominated for the Queensland Guineas.

The Snitzel colt was prepared by Ryan in the early part of his career for three wins, including a victory in the 2014 Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben, but was transferred to Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick for his three Queensland Winter Carnival runs so far this year.

While under the care of Kendrick, Time For War collected two runner’s up cheque when second to Nostradamus in the Group 3 $125,000 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) against the three years at the Gold Coast on April 25 followed by a second to Riva De Lago in the Listed $175,000 HMR Projects Pty Ltd Glasshouse Handicap (1300m) at the Sunshine Coast on May 16.

Then the speedy Time For War set the pace in the Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben on May 23 before fading in the straight to finish thirteenth.

The Kelly Schweida trained Miss Cover Girl and Awesome Rock from the Leon and Troy Corstens stable look set to clash again after finishing second and third behind Najoom in the Group 3 $125,000 Sita Australia Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 23.

But there is still a possibility the Miss Cover Girl can scrap into the final field for the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

“Three year old fillies have a very good record in the Stradbroke,” Schweida told AAP.
Champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller has taken all before him over the Winter Carnival with Group1 wins with Boban in the Doomben 10,000 and with Winx in last Saturday’s $500,000 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben but has only one nomination for the Queensland Guineas in Good Prospect.

Good Prospect ran a promising race at Doomben last Saturday when he made up plenty ground in the straight to finish one and a half lengths fifth to Mohave in the Listed $100,000 Nuturf Queensland Day (1200m).

Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan has nominated Traveston Girl and Hijack Hussy for the Queensland Guineas.

Gollan had high expectations for Traveston Girl going into the Winter Carnival after the filly ran second to Amicus in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

But the Flying Spur filly has failed to find the winner’s stall from three starts this campaign and was beaten six and a quarter lengths when ninth, after leading, to Najoom in the Fred Best Classic.
