We wrote about Tiger Tees at the start of the week highlighting his upcoming jump in distance ahead of an ambitious autumn program.

He was always going to be a horse of interest this weekend but the level of attention centred around the four year old has been quite incredible.

It seems that all eyes, including rival trainers, have been watching Tiger Tees this week and there will be no shortage of scrutiny coming out of his performance at Warwick Farm tomorrow.

He steps up to the 1300m for the very first time and trainer Joe Pride is hoping it will let him relax early on for a more explosive finish.

Despite being a winner over 1100m last start Pride says it’s putting too much pressure on him.

“He was racing too close to his top speed the entire way and horses can’t accelerate off that,” he said.

“At 1300m he will be able to relax and find his rhythm and travel comfortably before exploding at the finish.”

He’ll have to do it with an extra 2kg on his back as well as sacrificing 1.5kg to Dystopia, the Waller runner he beat by half a length last time out.

“His weight doesn’t look attractive but I don’t think it is the strongest open handicap,” Pride said.

“He has that much weight on his back because his record suggests that he is better than them.”

The increase pushes him up to 59kg but Pride says that’s something he’s willing to deal with to stay in an easier grade for the time being.

“He has been beating up on these same horses and has carried weight in the past so I thought why not try and beat them again,” he said.

“If he wins and runs up to expectation than I would look at putting him away for a couple of weeks and set the bar much higher in the autumn.”

As for the Warwick Farm surface which caused him so much concern last Monday Pride says it’s looking a lot better going into tomorrow.

“I’ve walked it and it seems as though it is in the dead range which is perfect,” he said.

“I don’t know if it was because of anything I said.”

Tiger Tees has an impressive six wins from eight career starts and he finished a tight second in both his defeats.
