Three Way Boilover In Prime Ministers Cup

Tampiko

Tampiko has caused a boilover, winning the Prime Minister's Cup at the Gold Coast

In a tough day for punters the Listed Prime Ministers Cup on the Gold Coast didn’t make things any better with all the favourites bombing out of the contest.

Despite that it was one of the closest and most exciting races of the day with a blanket finish of horses hitting the line at speed.

Tampiko ended up taking the spoils by the narrowest of margins from Eire Of Magic which was working up well on the inside.

The winner was completely overlooked in early betting with an average form guide showing an eighth and a sixth from the last two runs.

It was a similar story for Eire Of Magic which jumped at odds close enough to 100 to 1.

It didn’t stop there either with Fifteen Carat crossing the line third, a horse which has a best result of eighth from the last three runs.

It has produced some amazing numbers from bookmakers with the quinella alone paying more than $1000.

Just one share of the trifecta was worth over $40,000 showing what an upset the Prime Ministers Cup result was.

For Tampiko and indeed the other two placed horses it has opened up a string of opportunities for the rest of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

All of the horses were struggling for prize money to gain entry to some of the bigger events but now they’re almost assured of moving to Eagle Farm and Doomben in the coming weeks.

It was another disappointing run for Captain Sonador who could be retired immediately from racing to take up a stud position in New South Wales.
