Thousand Guineas 2015: Quick Back-Up No Issue For Badawiya

Trainer Mick Price is confident that the quick back-up will not be an issue for Badawiya when she contests the 2015 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on Saturday.

Badawiya started her spring campaign with a narrow second behind Thousand Guineas rival Super Cash at Sale on July 9 and she claimed her maiden race win in dominant fashion at Murtoa on August 15 before she had no luck in running in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5.

The Al Maher filly returned to winning form with an impressive victory at Pakenham on September 23 before she stamped herself as a genuine Thousand Guineas contender with a slashing win in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 4.

Price admits that Badawiya is unlikely to have as much luck in running as she did in the Edward Manifold Stakes, but he could not have been more impressed with her Edward Manifold Stakes victory and he told Racing Ahead that she had taken plenty of benefit from the win ahead of the 2015 Thousand Guineas this weekend.

“I thought that it was really good,” Price said.

“She has come into a different level of work and racing from where she started.

“The Edward Manifold Stakes win was really good and the last furlong was the best part of it.

“She has drawn 11 here and I am assuming that she is going to have to come across with Miss Gunpowder.

“That is going to use a bit more fuel than the beautiful run she had at Flemington and she has to cop with the back-up, so she has a couple of things to contend with.

“She is well in herself and she doesn’t appear to be affected physically and she is a filly that is bouncing off last Sunday.

“She looks great and we will give her a chance in a Group 1.”

Price is chasing his second win in the Thousand Guineas after he took out the 2008 edition of the race with the talented Gallica.

Badawiya is currently available at 2015 Thousand Guineas odds of $6 with Ladbrokes and along with Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Miss Gunpowder ($6) she is on the third line of betting behind Champagne Stakes winner Pasadena Girl ($4.40) and Lindsay Park-trained Stay With Me ($4.60).

Leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes is offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on the Thousand Guineas an every other race at Caulfield on Saturday!
