Thermal Current On The Drift In The Heath 1100 Betting

Thermal Current has drifted out to 2015 The Heath 1100 odds of $11 and trainer Peter Moody admits that the consistent sprinter faces a tough assignment in the Group 3 event at Caulfield tomorrow.

Thermal Current returned to winning form with a strong win in the Group 3 McKay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on May 2 and he was sent to the spelling paddock after he finished fifth behind stablemate Flamberge in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at the same venue on May 16.

The Exceed And Excel gelding has impressed Moody with his trackwork in the lead-up to The Heath 1100, but the leading Melbourne trainer told Racing Ahead that the Group 3 event had come up far stronger than he had expected and he expects the resuming Rich Enuff to be tough to beat.

“It is a bloody good race for this time of year in the sprints,” Moody said.

“He doesn’t know how to run bad this horse, but I was doing the reports with Jeff (O’Connor) just a minute ago and I said that you could run eighth of eight and walk away happy.

“Rich Enuff looks outstanding, but he is coming back off an injury, but if he is right he is the quality horse that looks too good but if he is vulnerable you could probably throw a blanket over the rest of them and luck will play a part.

“He is ready to run well, he had a good run here at Caulfield and he is fit enough if he is good enough.

“He will run terrific, but he could get beat two lengths.”

Thermal Current has shown that he can be competitive at the highest level of racing, but Moody does not have any firm plans with the five-year-old and he is happy to keep the gelding to lower level sprints during his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.

“We will just pick our mark,” Moody said.

“We are not unrealistic with him and he is probably a Group 2, Group 3 sprinter and if these horses progress to the better events we should be able to pick our mark around the edges hopefully.”

Rich Enuff is currently available at 2015 The Heath 1100 odds of $2.20 with Ladbrokes and he is a clear favourite from talented mare Bounding ($3.90), Group 1 placegetter Under The Louvre ($6.50) and Sir John Monash Stakes winner Miss Promiscuity ($7).
