Trainer David Pfieffer is confident that classy filly I Am Excited will perform well first-up in Saturday’s Listed The Rosebud (1100m) at Royal Randwick.

I Am Excited has only made two competitive appearances at the races so far, but has more than stamped her class and ability by running third in the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1200m) on debut before storming home to comfortably win a mid-week race at Warwick Farm on May 31st.

Having performed exceedingly well to win a Warwick Farm trial a fortnight ago, Pfieffer is thrilled with the condition of the Snitzel filly and believes that she has earned an early shot at black type success in The Rosebud.

“The trial went a lot better than I expected. She did it with ease,” Pfieffer told AAP.

“She’s a very forward filly, a very smart filly. Her trial and her work has backed up some of her race performances.

“We’ll have a crack at the Rosebud and if she doesn’t hit the mark we can come back a peg or two.

“I know whatever she does on Saturday she’s only going to improve. From my dealings with her at track work, there’s more black-type in her.”

Pfieffer has also included debutant Readycatgo in 2017 The Rosebud nominations, but revealed that he is unlikely to accept a position in the final field for the well-trialled filly.

“I don’t want to throw her into a race if she’s not quite up to it mentally,” Pfieffer said.

“I don’t think she’s ready to take on experienced horses. I think she’s at a disadvantage before the barriers open.”

Readycatgo has trialled four times in the lead-up to her competitive debut, but is likely to be kept for a ‘softer’ debut race.

The 2017 Rosebud final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday today (Wednesday, August 9th).
