Headline jockey Damien Oliver is certain that Fiorente can regain his weight for age crown this week at Rosehill when he lines up in a very strong The BMW field over 2400m on Saturday.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner blotted his copy book badly last start when a disappointing seventh to Silent Achiever in the Group 1 $500,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 22 but Oliver is willing to forget the poor run.

“You have go to be a bit forgiving for his last start loss,’’ Oliver told The Daily Telegraph.

“The bumping duel James (McDonald, It’s A Dundeel) and I got involved in didn’t help the horse and it was a pretty much a `leading’ track that day.”

Fiorente will be taking on Silent Achiever and It’s A Dundeel again in the weight for age Group 1 $1.5m The BMW and Oliver is certain to get a  good run from the inside gate in the eleven horse field and is also looking forward to the English import stepping up the 2400m for the first time this campaign.

“I reckon he is looking for the 2400m now — that is a plus for him for sure,’’ Oliver said.

Fiorente was unbeatable in his early Autumn campaign and at his first run back after winning the Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington in the Spring scored a narrow win over Mourayan in the Group 2 $220,000 Carlton Draught Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 22.

The six year old stallion then produced another first class effort to beat Green Moon and Foreteller in the weight for age Group 1 $1m Darley Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 8.

Fiorente rounded off his The BMW preparation with a solid hit out over 1400m at Randwick on Tuesday morning and sprinted to the line well, running 12 seconds from his final 200m.

Market framers also believe that Fiorente will be back to his best with Ladbrokes.com.au posting him the $3.60 favourite for The BMW ahead of It’s A Dundeel at $4.20 and Ranvet Stakes winner Silent Achiever at $5.

Australian Cup runner-up Green Moon is next in the betting at $6 ahead of Irish import Voleuse De Coeurs at $9.50 and Foreteller at $15.
