Thankgodyou’rehere – Welcome To The Galaxy

It’s time for Thankgodyou’rehere to step up a gear and deliver top level success after a dominant career in lower grades that has shown so much promise.

He has been confirmed as a starter in the Group 1 The Galaxy over 1100m at Randwick this Saturday.

He’ll face 12 competitors in the $350,000 race and despite his imposing career stats will come into the event as the lowest rated runner.

So far Thankgodyou’rehere has had 11 race starts for seven wins and another three second placings.

This weekend of the Sydney Autumn Carnival wasn’t originally on the list for his connections but after cruising to victory in a Randwick barrier trial they’ve decided, ‘why not’?

“He probably didn’t beat much (in the trial) but he did everything we asked him to do,” co-trainer Pat Webster said.

“It was always in our plans to trial on Monday then wait for the Heritage Stakes a fortnight later.

“But when he trialled like he did we started thinking why not have a have a go at the Galaxy.

“It’s a Group One on his home track.”

The last time Thankgodyou’rehere ran in was the Hawkesbury Cup last November, a race he won in style.

After that victory connections decided the five-year-old gelding was best suited towards the 2011 Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“Brisbane has been in our sights all along but I wouldn’t say no to winning a Galaxy along the way,” Webster Snr said.

“The good thing about (Saturday’s race) is that we don’t have to do anything with him between now and the race … it’s all been done.”

He’s been given the minimum 51kg weight but jockey Rod Quinton will ride him half a kilogram over after being given clearance by the stewards.
