Thankgodyou’rehere To Relish Dry Track In BRC Sprint

Thankgodyou’rehere will continue to aim for the Stradbroke Handicap when he runs in the Group 3 BRC Sprint this Saturday at Doomben Racecourse.

The five-year-old gelding is looking to qualify for the $1 million Stradbroke with a win in this weekend’s race.

Co-trainer Pat Webster believes that the key to Thankgodyou’rehere’s success will be the predicted dry track, with the trainer putting the horse’s last start fourth place finish down to the unsuitable wet track at the Gold Coast.

“You didn’t see the best of him that day,” Webster said of Thankgodyou’rehere’s performance in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup.

“He’s a much better horse on top of the ground.”

Webster said that jockey Rod Quinn would ride Thankgodyou’rehere more quietly on Saturday.

“He’s got a very big stride on him for a sprinter,” Webster said.

“He’ll (Quinn) ride him a lot more patient on Saturday.”

Webster had been hoping for a good barrier draw.

“He usually draws wide… it would be nice to draw 5,6, or 7,” he said.

Unfortunately for Webster, barrier draws released this morning have shown Thankgodyou’rehere  has drawn the widest in the race again, and will be forced to jump from gate 15.

Webster has decided to put winkers on Thankgodyou’rehere for the first time in the BRC Sprint after he felt the horse was “stargazing” during many of his recent starts.

“I just caught him having a look around,” Webster said.

“I think it’s time just to try something.

“He’s (trackwork rider Alan Russell) happy with them on so we’ll give it a go on Saturday.”

Thankgodyou’rehere will be looking to win his 7th race from just 13 starts when he takes to the track for the BRC Sprint.
