Terravista maintained his stellar record over sprinting trips with an impressive victory in the 2014 The Shorts at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Terravista only jumped from the gates fairly and was settled behind the speed in the early stages of the race, but he showed his outstanding turn-of-foot to run down brave leader I’m All The Talk and recorded his eighth race win from 11 starts.
Jockey Corey Brown picked up the ride on Terravista following the suspension of Hugh Bowman, who won on the Captain Rio gelding in the Group 2 Show County Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 23, and he said after the race that he could not have been more impressed with the turn-of-foot shown by the five-year-old in The Shorts.
“He is very good,” Brown said.
“He didn’t have a lot of luck even from barrier four and he was three wide facing the breeze, but I was never worried about the way that he was travelling.
“His turn-of-foot is pretty incredible actually and over the 1100 he has a great turn-of-foot.”
Terravista has recorded five wins from as many race starts in races shorter than 1300 metres and trainer Joseph Pride believes that the five-year-old may be the best horse that he has ever trained.
“He has an amazing sprint on him and he can sit off a hot speed,” Pride said.
“He has never been beaten at 1200 or below and it will be a long time until he does I think.”
Terravista is expected to have his next race start in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 4 and is then likely to head to Melbourne; with races like the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 24 and the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day potentially on the agenda for the talented sprinter.
The half-brother to Group 1 winner Tiger Tees made his debut at Group level with a narrow win in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on February 22 and beat El Roca to win the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on March 8, but failed to fire in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 29 and will now be kept to shorter sprinting trips.
