Terravista Early Favourite In Manikato Stakes Betting

Terravista is currently available at 2014 Manikato Stakes odds of $3.80 and he remains a narrow favourite in betting markets for the Group 1 event that will be held at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Terravista opened at a quote of $3.20 to record his maiden win at Group 1 level in the Manikato Stakes, but he has been a big drifter in early betting for the race and has now been wound out to $3.80.

Lankan Rupee suffered surprises losses in both the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 6 and the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on September 26, but he is on the second line of Manikato Stakes betting markets at $3.90.

The Redoute’s Choice drew poorly at the Manikato Stakes barrier draw at Moonee Valley yesterday and he will jump from barrier nine, but jockey Craig Newitt remains hopeful that the five-year-old can return to winning form on Friday.

It’s what we’ve been dealt and we’ll just have to work out a plan to overcome it,” Newitt said at the Manikato Stakes barrier draw.

“He’ll roll forward and will be in the first couple but it’s up to Mick (Price) and the owner Mr Yaseen whether we push on and take the lead or take a sit.

“The horse is going as good as he can, I can’t fault him.”

Buffering upset Lankan Rupee to record his fourth win at Group 1 level in the Moir Stakes and the Mossman gelding has been an early market mover in Manikato Stakes betting markets.

The popular sprinter opened at a quote of $6.50 when the 2014 Manikato Stakes field was released yesterday morning, but there has been a steady stream of support for the seven-year-old and he is now into $5.50.

Trainer Robert Heathcote is thrilled with Buffering heading into the Manikato Stakes and he revealed yesterday that he was surprised his star galloper was not at a shorter price in betting for the Group 1 event.

“I have got to be honest, I was a little bit surprised that the market put Chautauqua and Terravista in front of Buffering and Lankan Rupee,” Heathcote said.

“As I have said in the past, Buffering doesn’t win by big margins, but he is always tough to get past.”

The only other horse that is available at single figure Manikato Stakes odds is Gary Portelli-trained Rebel Dane, who has been backed from $10 into $9 this morning.

Rebel Dane returned to racing after recovering from a minor injury in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) and he made up good ground late to finish a close third behind Buffering and Lankan Rupee.

There has been a sprinkling of support for triple Group 1 winner Moment Of Change ($21 into $18) and McEwen Stakes winner Angelic Light ($15 into $11) in the betting market with Ladbrokes, while Famous Seamus ($15 out to $19), Not Listenin’tome ($17 out to $21) and Bounding ($17 out to $21) have all been on the drift.
