Tycoon Tara claimed her first Group 1 win in the last Group 1 of the 2016 – 2017 racing season with an all the way win in the $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben last Saturday.

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy produced a superb front running ride on Tycoon Tara to win his ninth Group 1 trophy for the current season with Hugh Bowman the only other jockey ahead of him with thirteen Group 1 wins.

Winning co-trainer Peter Snowden said it would be nice way for Tycoon Tara to end her racing career and head to the breeding barn with a Group 1 win beside name but said that he would discuss future plans for the rising seven year old with her owners in the next couple of days.

“The connections might want to press on. But she is rising seven years and a Group One win is a good way to hang your hat,” Snowden said.

“But we will have decide whether she goes to stud or races on in the next few days.”

Tycoon Tara headed into the Tattersall’s Tiara as a $19 chance on the back of an unimpressive seventh to Prompt Response in the Group 2 $200,000 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 10.

Snowden said that he had almost sent the Written Tycoon mare to the paddock after that run but was happy he had second thoughts and she a was able to turn the her form around with a clever ride from McEvoy.

McEvoy also admitted that his ride in the Dane Ripper Stakes was not top shelf and with a first class ride he was able to reverse the placings with Prompt Response ($8) who ran home strongly in the Tattersall’s Tiara but failed by a neck to get past Tycoon Tara.

“I have been riding her a bit cute,” McEvoy said.

“I really owed her that one because I haven’t been giving her the best rides recently. She was just in control and gave a good kick when I asked her and that is what she can do, it is really the cherry on the top for a mare like her.”

Race favourite In Her Time ($2.70) was squeezed out at the start and Josh Parr had to make a long sweeping move from near the tail of the field to challenge in the straight but the tough run took its toll over the final stages and she wound up in third position, one length from the winner.

The Tattersall’s Tiara winning cheque of $320,000 took Tycoon Tara’s overall prizemoney earnings to $1,173,370 for her ten wins from thirty-two starts.
