Group 1 winning mare Steps In Time will make her farewell racetrack appearance when she steps out in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 21.

Steps In Time will go to stud at the end of the season and Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride is keen to trial Steps In Time before the Tattersall’s Tiara to confirm her fitness after recovering from bruised heels.

Pride had to scratch the Danehill Dancer mare from the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 26 on race morning because of the bruising with a late appearance for the Brisbane Winter Carnival in mind.

“She seems good. I’ve been fairly happy with her. She’s had a good couple of weeks, and is in good order,” Pride told Racing Network.

“She went back to the owners’ place, Meredith Park, for close enough to two weeks. We had a foot abscess to get over and it was easier to have her out of work, so we rested it completely

“We’ll know more on Friday because I want to see her trial very well.”

The Tatterall’s Tiara is shaping up a great finale to the 2013-2014 Group 1 racing season with last Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap third placegetter Srikandi, dual Group 1 winner Red Tracer and Catkins from the Chris Waller stable and the Gai Waterhouse trained Cosmic Endeavour all intending to line up on Saturday week.

Pride got almost instant success with Steps In Time when he took over her preparation from John O’Shea for her Autumn Carnival campaign.

First up for the Pride stable, Steps In Time was beaten a nose by Catkins but aided by a daring front running ride by Jim Cassidy, the six year old mare was able to hold off the fast finishing Sweet Idea to win the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 22 at her next start.

Pride then freshened her up for the 1200m Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 12, the first day of ‘The Championships’, but the mare found the top class field of sprinters too nippy for her and she was a well beaten thirteenth on the heavy track behind Lankan Rupee.

“She has achieved the goal we really wanted to get with her in winning a Group 1, winning the Coolmore,” Pride said.
