Tarzino’s Caulfield Guineas odds continue to shorten

Tarzino has won two of his three race starts with a win in a 1400m Ballarat Maiden on August 27 followed by a win in a $80,000 three year old Handicap over 1600m at Caulfield on September 15.

The Mick Price trained three year old opened at the long odds of $41 at Ladbrokes.com.au when the final field was released on Tuesday but that was quickly snapped up and by the end of the day Tarzino was into $12.

And with more support on Wednesday, his price has continued to firm and the Tavistock colt is now into $9.50.

Craig Newitt has been aboard Tarzino for all his three race starts and is sticking with him in the Caulfield Guineas and is not ruling out an upset, according to Price.

“Craig Newitt is very optimistic about Tarzino if there is a fast pace, which I’m sure there will be in the Guineas,” Price said.

Tarzino galloped with stablemate and Caulfield Guineas rival Ready For Victory on Tuesday morning at Caulfield and Price was happy with the hit out and heads to the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday with some confidence.

“I think I have my best two chances ever in a Guineas,” Price said.

Price’s best result in the Spring Carnival three year old blockbuster was in 2003 when Kempinsky finished third behind In Top Swing and Face Value.

Ready For Victory will wear the blinkers for the first time with the recommendation of Melbourne’s premiership winning jockey Damien Oliver.

Oliver has ridden Ready For Victory at his two most recent starts for a third to Kinglike in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 12 followed by a lacklustre ninth in the Group 3 $175,000 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 26.

Oliver suggested to Price after the Caulfield Guineas Prelude to try the blinkers on Ready For Victory but he won’t be there to test out his theory after being suspended for careless riding at Flemington last Sunday.

Glen Boss takes the ride on Saturday and got a feel of the More Than Ready colt on Tuesday morning in his Caulfield gallop with Tarzino.

Ready For Victory is well up in the market but has drifted slightly to be a $8 chance.
